Artist's Statement
There was no grand entrance of art in my life. I had always appreciated books and it was their illustrations that awakened my interest in drawings, prints, and paintings.
Printing was the first expressive form that captivated me and nurtured my inner drive to work with art. I like to feel the marks, the texture that etching adds to the paper. I am inspired by the forms I find in the native plants of my country, (Brazil). Especially from the Cerrado or savanna grasslands with its hardy trees, fruits, hanging seeds and pods. The simplicity derived from the distillation of these elements into a minimal landscape is what moves me.
Painting came shortly after printing. I fell in love with colors that are dissonant, and made them part of my work. I began to distill and simplify shapes in search of the essence of my subjects almost as a pretext to work with paint, building, layer by layer, a space of color.
In art, where almost everything has already been done, I enjoy learning from the grand masters of the past. But it is looking at clean and minimal, contemporary art that I find myself.
I try to reach beyond my limits to bring poetry into my work and satisfy my need to express myself through painting.

A arte veio para mim sem grandes explicações. Sempre apreciei os livros, e a partir deles os desenhos, as pinturas e as gravuras.
A gravura foi a primeira forma de expressão a me chamar a atenção e a despertar a vontade de fazer algo em arte. Gosto de sentir as marcas, as texturas do relevo da tinta no papel. Através dela pude fazer algo, inspirado nas formas que vejo na natureza: referências do cerrado, típicas do meu país, das vegetações com suas sementes pendentes, seus frutos, suas marcas no relevo trazendo uma paisagem quase minimalista, que me emocionam pela sua simplicidade.
A pintura veio pouco depois, apaixonei-me pelas cores, essas que causam uma certa estranheza, parte do meu trabalho. As formas foram depurando-se, simplificando-se na busca de uma essência, talvez como pretexto para fazer pintura, de camada sobre camada e construir um espaço de cor.
Na arte, onde quase tudo já foi feito, gosto de aprender com os mestres do passado, mas é olhando para o contemporâneo límpido e mínimo que me situo.
Busco ultrapassar os meus limites, fazendo e colocando na tela a minha poética, o que vem do meu interior, para satisfazer esta vontade enorme de pintar e de expressar algo.
